An Obligation and Two Honest People

Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu `anhu has said that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu `alayhi wa salam mentioned a man of the Bani Israel saying:

He asked another to lend him a thousand dinars. The lender asked him to bring witnesses but the borrower said, "Allah is sufficient as a witness." The lender asked him to furnish a surety but the borrower again asserted, "Allah is sufficient as a surety." The lender agreed, "You are correct," and lent him money for a specified period.

The debtor went across the sea. When he had finished his work, he looked for a conveyance to take him back for the punctual repayment of his debt, but he did not find any conveyance. So he took a piece of wood and made a hole in it. He inserted in it the one thousand dinars and a letter to the lender and closed the hole tightly.

He took the piece of wood to the sea and said, "O Allah! You know well that I took a loan of one thousand dinars from so-and-so. He demanded a surety from me but I told him that Allah's surety was enough and he accepted Your Guarantee. He then demanded a witness and I told him that Allah was sufficient as a witness. No doubt I have tried much to find a conveyance so that I might pay back his money but could not find one, so I hand this money over to you."

Saying that, he threw the piece of wood into the sea till it went far out into it, and then he went away. Meanwhile he kept looking for a conveyance to take him to the lender's place.

One day, the lender came out of his house to see whether a ship had arrived bringing his money, and all of a sudden, he saw a piece of wood in which was the money. He took it home to use as firewood. When he sawed it, he found his money and the letter inside it.

Shortly after that, the debtor came with a thousand dinars and said, "By Allah! I had been trying to get a boat so I could bring you your money but failed to get one before the one I have come by."
The lender said, "Allah has delivered on your behalf the money you sent in the piece of wood. So you may keep your thousand dinars and go, guided on the right path."

Beautiful Story about Allah's Forgiveness

It was narrated that in the days that Musa (Alahi salaam) wandered with Bani Israel in the desert an intense drought befell them. Together, they raised their hands towards the heavens praying for the blessed rain to come. Then, to the astonishment of Musa (Alahi salaam) and all those watching, the few scattered clouds that were in the sky vanished, the heat poured down, and the drought intensified.

It was revealed to Musa that there was a sinner amongst the tribe of Bani Israel whom had disobeyed Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) for more than forty years of his life. "Let him separate himself from the congregation," Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) told Musa (Alahi salaam). "Only then shall I shower you all with rain."

Musa (Alahi salaam) then called out to the throngs of humanity, "There is a person amongst us who has disobeyed Allah for forty years. Let him separate himself from the congregation and only then shall we be rescued from the drought." That man, waited, looking left and right, hoping that someone else would step forward, but no one did. Sweat poured forth from his brow and he knew that he was the one.

The man knew that if he stayed amongst the congregation all would die of thirst and that if he stepped forward he would be humiliated for all eternity.

He raised his hands with a sincerity he had never known before, with a humility he had never tasted, and as tears poured down on both cheeks he said: "O Allah, have mercy on me! O Allah, hide my sins! O Allah, forgive me!"

As Musa (Alahi salaam) and the people of Bani Israel awaited for the sinner to step forward, the clouds hugged the sky and the rain poured. Musa (Alahi salaam) asked Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala), "O Allah, you blessed us with rain even though the sinner did not come forward." And Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) replied, "O Musa, it is for the repentance of that very person that I blessed all of Bani Israel with water."

Musa (Alahi salaam), wanting to know who this blessed man was, asked, "Show him to me O Allah!" Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) replied, "O Musa, I hid his sins for forty years, do you think that after his repentance I shall expose him?"

An Admirable Youth: The 16 Year Old Sahabi

Thalaba Ibn AbdulRahman was a young man at the age of 16. He always ran errands for the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). One day while walking though the city of Medina, he passed by a house with an open door. Out of curiosity he took a glance inside. In this glance, he saw a light curtain being blown away from a bathroom entrance were a woman was bathing. He lowered his gaze.

With an extreme feeling of guilt and hypocrisy his mind ran. Thinking to himself, ?How could I be of the companions, one that is close to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), one who runs his errands and be so horrible as to disrespect peoples privacy??..

He feared that Allah would reveal to the Prophet (peace be upon him) evidence of his hypocrisy. His guilt denied him to ever show his face to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). So he ran away. Days went by and the prophet kept asking the other companions if they had seen Thalaba. No one had seen him. With the Prophet Muhammad's worry about Thalaba he sent a few of the companions to look for him everywhere, among them were Omar Ibn Al Khattab and Salman Al Farisiy.

They looked everywhere in Medina, and on the out skirts of Madina, until they came about a set of mountains between Mecca and Medina where some nomads where herding sheep. The companions asked the nomads if they had seen a young man with Thalaba's characteristics. They told the companions about a weeping boy. He had been here for 40 days. He came down from the mountains once a day weeping and drank the milk they would offer him. Then he went back up the mountains weeping, crying, always asking for Allah for forgiveness, and saying words of repentance.

So the companions waited until he came down and watched him. He had lost weight. His countenance reflected sorrow as he drank the milk that was mixed with his tears.

The companions insisted that they take him back to the prophet (peace be upon him) he refused and asked them if Allah had revealed verses saying he was a hypocrite. They told him that they had no knowledge of any such verses. He was taken back to Medina where the Prophet (peace be upon him) went to see him. He asked again if Allah had put him among the hypocrites or revealed that he was.

The prophet (peace be upon him) assured him that there were no such verses. He laid out Thalaba's tired, weak body and placed Thalaba's head on his lap. He said, "Oh prophet of Allah remove the head of a sinner away from you." The prophet pbuh comforted him until he told the Prophet (peace be upon him) "I feel as though ants are walking between my flesh and bones."

The prophet told him it was death and his time had come.

He witnessed while Thalaba's head was on his lap, Thalaba proclaim "There is no god worthy of worship other than Allah, and that Mohamed (peace be upon him) is the messenger of Allah".The prophet (peace be upon him) washed Thalaba and carried him to the grave.

It is narrated that on their way to bury Thalaba, the prophet (peace be upon him) walked on his tippy toes as though he were in a crowd.

When Omar asked about this, the prophet (peace be upon him) explained .....that he was being crowded with the angels.

So many angels had come...

Convert a Lemon into a ٍSweet Drink!

An intelligent and skillful person transforms losses into profits; whereas, the unskilled person aggravates his own predicament, often making two disasters out of one.

Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him was rejected from the city of Taa'if after being forced to leave Mecca, people threw stones at him until his blessed legs bleeded, yet he said "Maybe Allah will raise amongst them those who worship Him alone".

Imam Ibn Taymiyah was put into prison; he later came out an even more accomplished scholar than he was before.. His rather famous quote reflects his optimistic view of this world:

"What can my enemies possibly do to me? My paradise is in my heart; wherever I go it goes with me, inseparable from me. For me, prison is a place of (religious) retreat; execution is my opportunity for martyrdom; and exile from my town is but a chance to travel."

Therefore, if you are afflicted with a misfortune, look on the bright side. If someone were to hand you a glass full of squeezed lemons, add to it a handful of sugar. And if someone gives you a snake as a gift, keep its precious skin and leave the rest.

[And it may be that you dislike a thing that is good for you...]
(Quran 2: 216)

Look at the other side of a tragedy - a circumstance of pure evil does not exist, and in all situations one can find goodness and profit and reward from Allah.

[Is not He [better than your gods] Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls Him...]
(Quran 27:62)

From Whom do the weak and the oppressed seek victory? Who does everyone beseech? He is Allah. None has the right to be worshipped except Him.

Therefore it is most advisable for you and I to invoke Him during times of both hardship and ease, to seek shelter with Him in difficult times, and to plead at His doorstep with tears of repentance; then will His help and relief quickly arrive.

[Is not He [better than your gods] Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls Him...]
(Quran 27:62)

He saves the one who is drowning, gives victory to the oppressed, guides the misguided, cures the sick, and provides relief to the afflicted.

[And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allah, making their Faith pure for Him only...]
(Qur 'an 29:65)

Learn the prophetic supplications with which you can call to Allah, supplicate to Him, and seek His aid. If you are persistent and sincere in your supplication, you will achieve freedom from worry and anxiety. He is near; He hears all and answers those who supplicate to Him.

If you are living through affliction and pain, remember Allah, call out His name, and ask Him for help. Place your forehead on the ground and mention His praises, so that you can obtain true freedom. Raise your hands in supplication, and ask of Him constantly. Cling to His door, have good thoughts about Him, and wait for His help - you will then find true happiness and success.

(Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.)(Quran 13:28)

Love of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala

Ibn al-Qaiyim mentioned ten causes that result in Allah's love for His slave and the slave's love for his Lord. [These ten are:]

First, reciting the Qur'an while pondering over its meanings and what is meant by it.

Second, getting closer to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after completing obligatory deeds. This is as is stated in a Hadith Qudsi: "My slave continues getting closer to Me by performing voluntary deeds until I love him." [al-Bukhari]

Third, continual remembrance of Allah under all circumstances, with one's tongue, heart and actions. The extent of one's love of Allah is determined by this.

Fourth, giving precedence to what He loves over what you love when you are overtaken by your desires.

Fifth, the heart being avid of Allah's Names, and Attributes and the heart roaming in that garden of knowledge.

Sixth, observing Allah's kindness, goodness and bounties, both hidden and open.

Seventh, and this is the most wonderful, the heart being soft, subdued and meek before Allah.

Eighth, being alone with Allah during the time when the Lord descends during the last portion of the night while reading His Book and ending that by asking for forgiveness and repenting.

Ninth, sitting with the beloved and sincere, benefitting from the most fruitful of their speech. And not to speak unless speaking is more beneficial and you know that it will improve your state and be beneficial to others.

Tenth, remaining away from every cause that comes between the heart and Allah.

These ten causes take the lovers to the station of true love and bring them to their Beloved.

The flame of faith - By Tayyaba Khalil

In the deepest dreams
In the realm of light
You feel strong
the flame
kindled by hope
by fear.
The flame which
set ablaze
the selfish self.
To ashes it burns
The false, The rust
The world of lust.
The pain,
The sweet pain
dwells inside
the weary heart.
The tears of regret
take all over.
With deep trust
cherishing the truth,
Nothing be seen
but light of purity.

At- Tauhid (The Oneness of Allah)
Allah the Almighty said:
"And I (Allah) created not the Jinns and men except they should worship Me (Alone)."
(51:56)
And He stated:
"And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger
(proclaiming): 'Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities
etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).' "
(16:36)
And He said:
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful
to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them
a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. And lower
unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: 'My Lord! Bestow on
them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.' "
(17:23, 24)
And He said:
"Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship."
(4:36)
And He said:
"Say (O Muhammad May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him ): Come, I will recite
what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and
dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty -We provide sustenance for you
and for them; come not near to shameful sins (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed
openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause
(according to Islamic law), This He has commanded you that you may understand. And come not
near to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he (or she) attains the age of full
strength; and give full measure and full weight with justice. We burden not any person, but that
which he can bear. And whenever you give your word (i.e. judge between men or give evidence,
etc.), say the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the Covenant of Allah. This He
commands you, that you may' remember. And verily, this is My Straight Path, so follow it, and
follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for
you that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious)."
(6: 151-153)
Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
Whoever wishes to ascertain the very will of Prophet Muhammad (May the peace and
blessing of Allah be upon him) on which the Prophet has put his seal, let him read the Statement
of Allah:
"Say (O Muhammad (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) ): Come, I will
recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him... (up to)
...And verily, this is My Straight Path."
It is narrated that Mu'adh bin Jabal (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
I was riding behind the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) on a
donkey and he said to me "O Mu'adh, do you know what is the right of Allah on his slaves and
what is the right of the slaves upon Allah?" I responded: "Allah and His Messenger know best."
He continued, "The Right of Allah upon His slaves is to worship Him Alone and never to
associate anything with him. The right of slaves upon Him is not to punish any person who does
not associate anything with Him." I said: "O Allah's Messenger, may I not give the glad tidings to
the people?" He replied: "No. Do not inform them lest they rely on (this promise and lapse in
their service to Him)1.” [The above Hadith is mentioned in two Sahih Books (Al-Bukhari and
Muslim)].
Important issues of the Chapter
1) Wisdom of Allah in creating jinn and mankind.
2) Worship is Tauhid, as, in this issue there had always been dispute (between the Prophets and
the polytheists).
3) Those who have not fulfilled the requirements of Tauhid are such as they have not worshipped
Allah, and in this sense is the meaning of the verse:
"Nor will you worship that which I worship"
(109:3).
4) The wisdom in sending the Messengers.
5) The message of the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) (Tauhid)
applies to all nations.
6) All Prophets have brought one and the same religion.
7) The major issue is that the worship of Allah cannot be performed until Taghut is denounced

All the affairs of a believer are good

The Messenger of Allah Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"Strange is the affair of the mu'min (the believer). Verily, all his affairs are good for him. If something pleasing befalls him he thanks (Allah) and it becomes better for him. And if something harmful befalls him he is patient (saabir) and it becomes better for him. And this is only for the mu'min."

Suspicious things

Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir:I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. (O people!) Beware! Every king has a Hima and the Hima of Allah on the earth is His illegal (forbidden) things. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.' (Bukhari, 49)

The best wish - By Tayyaba Khalil

I want to turn my face away from this false world
characterized by wealth, appearance & status
I want to turn my face towards my Lord
I want to seek His pleasure alone
I am on a journey so long and so hard
seeking guidance from Allah
My destination is not in this World
But the paradise in the hereafter
so pure and so true, living in thereby forever
I hope to meet my Lord
His term is surely coming.
I fear the fire and ask forgiveness from Allah
for the bad deeds, I have done.
I want to taste the sweetness of faith
by loving the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),
by saying and doing all that he loved.
I want to drink the water of the sweet well
from the hands of my beloved Prophet
on the day when there will be no water elsewhere
I want to be in the shade of Allah's Throne and Mercy
on the day when there will be no shade elsewhere
O, my Lord! You know the hearts
You know it is true that I wish it all
But I am misguided, please guide me
I am weak, please give me the strength
I am wandering in the dark, please bring me to your light
I am caught in worldly affairs, please help me to come to your path
My Lord! Most Merciful, Most High
I bear witness that you are the only one
to be worshipped alone without any partners
and I bear witness that Prophet Muhammad ( peace be upon him)
is the last messenger
and the best example for mankind
O, Allah! please engrave this truth in
my heart till my death
Please make me say this word when the angel of death comes
to free my soul from this cage
Please let my soul rise to the heavens
Please make my grave a garden of paradise
Please take easy account of my deeds
Forgive my sins
& Make me enter the gardens of paradise eternally
O, my Lord! please make this wish true for all the Muslims
